Margaret Jean ”Margo” (Hart) MacDonald, 72, of Clarendon Springs and formerly Rutland, VT died Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at her home. She was born May 13, 1954 in Rutland, VT the daughter of Kenneth N. and Anne (Green) Hart.

A 1972 graduate of Rutland High School, she went on to receive her B.A. from the College St. Joseph The Provider and later earned her Master's degree in Education.

A 57-year member of Grace Congregational UCC, she sang in the youth choir and high school choirs. She was a member of the West Rutland American Post #87 auxiliary.

On March 9,1985, she married Gary R.” Mac” MacDonald and they completely renovated their residence, a 3-story stone house in Clarendon Springs.

Margo worked as a remedial reading teacher at Poultney Elementary School for 46 years.

An avid reader and walker, she also loved spending time on the coast of Maine eating all things lobster with family and friends.

Survivors include her loving husband of 41 years; her three terrific children, Emily Anne Gabriele (Mike) of Rutland Town, Jessica Lynne MacDonald and James Gary MacDonald, both of Westborough, MA; one grandson, Damien Gabriele; two siblings, Jody Guimond (Bob) and Brad Hart (Jennifer); a sister-in-law, Gail Ferguson (Keith) and several nieces and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will held on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at the West Rutland Legion, 333 Pleasant St., West Rutland, VT 05777, from 1-3 PM, beginning with a time of family remembrances at 1:00 PM. All who wish are invited to bring a written story for her Memory Book.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
