Richard S. Candlish

Richard S. Candlish, 82, of Florence, VT, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born in Rutland, VT, on March 7, 1944 the son of Floyd Kempton Candlish and Beatrice Claire Sheldon.

He graduated from Rutland High School with the class of 1962.

Richard proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to education, teaching at Woodstock Union High School and Mill River Union High School, where he influenced the lives of countless students over the years.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary E. Ladd; his brother, Wayne F. Candlish of Cannon Beach, Oregon; his step-daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Kyle Thornton and his grandchildren, Tyler Sweet and Gunner Thornton.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services at this time.

Tossing Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
