Virginia "Jinny" Angelis, born December 2, 1944 in North Carolina, passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 81.
For 61 years, Jinny shared her life with her beloved husband, John. They met and eventually married in Rutland, Vermont, and soon began a life together that would take them to many different places and through countless experiences.
Wherever they lived, Jinny found something new to discover and make her own. Jinny was intelligent, curious, and independent. She attended the University of New Hampshire, earning a degree in Communications Research, and later received a master's degree from Boston University. She spent much of her professional life working with complex information systems, a natural fit for her analytical mind and ability to bring order to complicated things.Jinny followed her curiosity wherever it took her.
Photography was one of her early passions, and she especially loved black and white images of architecture and the patterns, textures, and light found in nature. She always hoped to return to photography, but there was usually another interest waiting for her attention.
Over the years, Jinny explored many different interests. She loved tango, horses, and dogs, and took great pride in her champion Weimaraner show dogs. In later years, she turned her attention to ceramics, spending time at the wheel and firing her own pieces in her kiln. She had a remarkable ability to become genuinely interested in whatever caught her attention next. Jinny valued substance over pretense. She spoke her mind, had a sharp and wonderfully dry sense of humor, and lived life on her own terms. She was loyal to the people and animals she loved and formed lasting friendships with people who appreciated her intelligence, honesty, and straightforward nature.
Jinny is survived by her beloved husband, John; her daughter, Lucy Angelis; her brother, Ralph L. Barber; her sister, Barbara Sebastian; four nieces and nephews; and a close community of lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helen Barber, and her son-in-law, Jason Beddow, beloved husband of Lucy.
The funeral service was held in Albuquerque, NM on September 25, 2026 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 11 AM in Evergreen Cemetery, 465 West St., Rutland, VT.
